This time we discuss Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections or NSTI.
We talk a little pathophys, ED management and our management at the chamber.
Basic pathophysiology:
- HBO can enhance phagocytic abilities of PMNs and other cells of the body, enhance the bacterial killing potential of antibiotics, reduce edema and increase oxygen delivery to locally hypoxic areas which can slow the progress of facultative anaerobes and other bacteria.
- The higher oxygen tension stops the production of the alpha toxin with clostridial infections.
